I am incredibly bad at writing about myself, but hello :). I am Jessa, a UX / UI designer currently residing in a tiny but comfy apartment in NY, where I spend most of my time reading Manga, playing video games and of course... designing.
I have had many roles in the last 10+ years as a designer – from Interactive Graphic Designer, Front-End Developer, Director of Creative Services and Lead Product Designer.
I was one of those kids that really enjoyed "Choose Your Own Adventure" books, and I still really love playing Tell-a-Tale games.
I think that is where my passion for problem solving and outlining someone's journey to have the most successful and delightful adventure in any experience comes from.
I started my design career with Fisher-Price, which humbly gave a very spry young me an opportunity of a lifetime. I spent my first years as an interactive graphic designer (the term for UX – before UX was even a thing) working on interactive games and websites, designing ads, managing CRMs, designing packaging and creating email marketing campaigns.
From there I went on to become the Director of Creative Services for a small start-up marketing firm. There I lead a team of 2-3 web designers, 4 marketing designers and 2 full stack developers. It was an amazing learning experience, and I gained a passion for servant leadership, mentoring and growing other designers to become even better than I was.
I started really focusing on what meant the most to me about design and I did a lot of research on what kind of T-Shaped abilities suited not only my skills but my passions.
I left my role in Marketing to pursue UX and Product roles.
Although it was a hard decision – learning UX and Product Design has greatly changed my perspective of design. My skills in Marketing and building campaigns has shaped how I work with people and users. My passion for UX is only growing, and I know there is so much more to learn.
